Lyn Hovey
|
Lyn Hovey, President and Artistic Director of the internationally recognized Lyn Hovey Studio (Boston) and Estudio de Lyn Hovey (Guatemala), has had a distinguished career spanning more than fifty years as an artist, teacher, lecturer, author and leader in the stained glass industry.
He served in apprenticeships with two Cleveland-based studios after studying at the Cleveland Institute of Art. His first apprenticeship was with the Phillips Stained Glass Studio, believed to be the first in the United States owned by an African American. The second was with the Sandon Stained Glass Studio.
Prior to establishing the Lyn Hovey Studio, Inc. in 1971, Lyn worked as a glass painter and designer with the Wilbur Herbert Burnham Studio and with Joseph G. Reynolds, two of the more celebrated leaders of the Boston neo-Gothic stained glass movement.
Lyn has taught art throughout the New England area in a variety of venues, from university art programs to inner-city, after-school enrichment programs. In addition, as a noted authority on stained glass and its conservation, he has authored many articles on stained glass as well as performed speaking engagements to groups such as professional associations and community-based organizations. |
